ANC Conference and Awards 2015

The Acoustics Group were represented at the Association of Noise Consultants Annual Conference in Birmingham by Nick Durup who attended the sessions on the recently revised Schools Testing Good Practice Guide and BB93. This relates closely to Nick's research looking at links between classroom acoustics and the voices of teachers. The evening saw the ANC Acoustic Awards , the Acoustic Group's Dr Stephen Dance sat on the judging panel which considered a range varied and challenging projects this year.

Nick presents at IBPC 2015

On the 16th June 2015 Nick Durup presented at a special session on acoustics at International Conference on Building Physics. The paper was entitled, "How classroom acoustics affect the vocal load of teachers", in the session "Teaching and Learning in Healthy and Comfortable Classrooms". The session was of particular interest to those working on teacher's voice and a COST Action was proposed at the subsequent workshop.

6th International Building Physics Conference

From June 14th to 17th 2015 Dr Stephen Dance and Nick Durup attended the 6th International Building Physic Conference in Turin. The conference was held in at Politecnico di Torino, where we had a tour of the laboratory and very good coffee! Every attendee become a member of the International Association for Building Physics.

LSBU Building Services Engineering Show inc Acoustics

The inaugural Building Services Engineering Celebration Day was held on 17th June 2015. The students displayed their final year dissertation posters, whilst the acousticians demonstrated their products: a dodecohedron loudspeaker, a skyline diffuser and a laser cut microperforated panel.  The event was attended by external industrial representatives, academic staff and students. The acoustic stand attracted a great deal of interest and questions

Paper published on AcuTek open access website

Magne Slakevik invited the Acoustics Group to publish their papers on to his open access website www. acutek.info . The site is dedicated to room, music and speech acoustics and their interrelationship. The papers published were from Euronoise 2015 session on sound exposure of musicians.

Final drinks with the IOA students 2015

The last exam had been sat, the sun was shining, so naturally we all went to the pub to celebrate another fantastic year with the Institute of Acoustics Diploma students. You were a great bunch to teach and now the marking starts.... We'll see you all again to discuss projects very soon, so enjoy the sunshine now, you deserve to :)

Presentation at Euronoise 2015

Dr Stephen Dance presented his work on "Sound Exposure and the Hearing of Musicians" at Euronoise 2015, Maastricht. The paper gave the analysis of 2500 individual classical musicians and was well received by the audience.

Acoustics Group at Euronoise 2015

The Acoustics Group attended Euronoise 2015 at Maastricht 1st-3rd June 2015. It was agreed that we will help organise Acusticum Forum/Acoustical Society of America conference in Boston, June 2017. We are organising a session on assisted listening devices in rooms. Maastricht is a great city and the conference was fun .
